    Corten steel

The Fire Pit is made entirely of 3-mm-thick corten steel plates.

Corten is a steel alloy that forms a protective rust layer on the surface. When you order our Fire Pit, you will receive it without any rust. As soon as you place the Fire Pit outside, where it is subject to different weather conditions, the rusting process will begin. Depending on where you live, the process of changing from new to rusty steel can take from a few months to a year.

The steel is intended to rust to form a protective coating. In the first phase of the rusting process, some rust chips may come off, but this stops after a while and the Fire Pit gets its final appearance.

    Carbon Steel

The grill ring on top is made of carbon steel, which is ideal to cook your food as long as you give it some TLC 😉

Without maintenance, the steel will rust. So after every cooking session on your Fire Pit, scrape off all remaining food and oil from the grill ring. Then clean the ring with a damp towel, and apply a fresh layer of vegetable oil or pan-coating to prevent the grill ring from rusting.

When the grill ring is not used for longer periods, I recommend treating it with oil or pan coating every 15-30 days. Better yet, remove the grill ring to store in a dry place.

    Fire & Smoke

    Fire

The Fire Pit features an internal chimney system that sucks in air through the double walls and through the bottom plate. Maximum oxygen input will help your fire burn cleanly and efficiently with minimal smoke.

Start by placing small pieces of kindling wood inside the Fire Pit, and light them up. Once the fire is burning, start to slowly add bigger logs of hardwood (recommended length 25 cm, diameter 10 cm). After about 20 minutes, the Fire Pit is preheated and you can start cooking on the grill ring.

    Smoke

Once the FirePit is up to temperature, it produces less smoke than most fire pits. Here’s how: To create fire with very little smoke you need 3 ingredients: fuel, oxygen, and heat.

To create fire without smoke, you need 3 ingredients: fuel, oxygen, and heat.

    Fuel

Should be clean, dry hardwood (moisture level around 20%).

    Oxygen

The Outdoor Oven can create a great amount of drag thanks to its internal airflow system, which sucks in lots of oxygen. This makes for a very efficient burn with little to no smoke.

    Heat

This is the final ingredient for an efficient burn and is also the ingredient you will probably be missing the first 15 minutes after starting up your fire. That’s why you can expect some smoke development at the beginning of your cooking sessions.
